Shinkansen

Shinkansen, commonly known as the “bullet train,” refers to Japan’s high-speed rail network. It is renowned for its punctuality, safety, and efficiency, serving as a cornerstone of Japan’s public transportation system. The Shinkansen trains operate on specially built lines, allowing them to travel at speeds exceeding 300 kilometers per hour (about 186 miles per hour). The term “Shinkansen” translates to “new main line” in English, first introduced during the Tokyo-Osaka line’s inauguration in 1964. The Shinkansen has become a symbol of modern rail travel, providing quick and comfortable transport between major cities across Japan, fostering economic growth and regional connectivity.
