Premier League

The Premier League is the top tier of professional football (soccer) in England. Established in 1992, it is contested by 20 teams and is considered one of the most popular and competitive leagues globally. The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the English Football League (EFL) Championship, where the teams finishing at the bottom of the Premier League are relegated to the lower division, and top teams from the Championship are promoted. The Premier League runs annually from August to May, with each team playing 38 matches. It is known for high-quality play, featuring some of the best football clubs and players in the world, and attracts significant media attention and lucrative broadcasting deals. The team with the highest points total at the end of the season is crowned the champion.
