Soccer

Soccer is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, where the objective is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field, typically grass or artificial turf, and is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game.

Soccer is characterized by the use of any part of the body except the arms and hands to control the ball, with the exception of the goalkeepers who can use their hands within their penalty area. The match consists of two halves, usually lasting 45 minutes each, with a halftime interval. The team that scores the most goals wins the match, and if the score is tied, the game may end in a draw or proceed to extra time or penalties, depending on the competition rules.

Known for its global popularity, soccer is played by millions of people and is a foundational sport in many countries. It is governed internationally by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), which organizes major competitions such as the FIFA World Cup.
