Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each, primarily involving the use of feet to maneuver a spherical ball with the objective of scoring goals by getting the ball into the opposing team’s net. It is governed by the rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Football is known by different names in various regions; for instance, in the United States and Canada, it is referred to as “soccer” to differentiate it from American football. The sport is characterized by its simplicity and minimal equipment requirements, allowing it to be played in various environments, from professional stadiums to informal street games.

The game is played on a rectangular pitch, with a goal at each end. Players can use any part of their body except their arms and hands (goalkeepers exempt) to control the ball, passing it to teammates and trying to score. Football is one of the most popular sports globally, with millions of fans and players, and it is governed internationally by FIFA, which organizes events such as the FIFA World Cup.
